Currently only a small fraction (a few hundred protein targets) of the human genome is druggable. The Illuminating the Druggable Genome (IDG) initiative, a NIH Common Fund Program, aims to address this problem by supporting research on understudied “dark” targets, including kinases, ion channels, and GPCRs. With the funding of our R03 proposal to pilot new technologies for studying dark GPCRs, we are excited to join and contribute to the research efforts being done by the consortium of labs that comprise the IDG.
